Programme Notes

1. "On The Way"

The rambler sets off at a good pace. Then at D he encounters a slight incline that slows his speed. He reaches the top and at E is once again able to up the pace. This movement finishes on a loud triumphant chord. 

2. "Repose" 

This is where the walker takes a rest, to refresh before continuing. 

3. "Vistas" 

This movement depicts the wonderful vistas and landscapes that is the reward for the ramblers' efforts. At M there is movement again and the walker starts off again with a tread coming from the bass drum. 

4. "Homeward" 

The journey back home is accompanied by a majestic march, changing key for the final leg with a reflection of the original motif before the music slows for the last few bars as the walk finishes.
